A Grave in an Underground Cave

I’m travelling around Turkey now, so these posts will be brief.

One of the most fascinating parts of the country that I’ve visited is the Cappadocia region.

The topography is fascinating and is the result of volcanic activity that created soft rock deposits which have been conducive to building underground refuges.

On my trip, we visited the underground city of Derinkuyu, which served as a refuge for Christians fleeing persecution throughout the centuries.

There are many such underground cities throughout Cappadocia, and I have been enjoying being curious about how we know whatever is claimed to be known about the history and uses of these sites.

I’ve also been reading some of the Church Fathers who were from the Cappadocia region and trying to get a taste for some of the extensive early Christian history here.
